About Us

We're a small eclectic powerhouse driven to solve in unique ways.

Our company resides in both Melbourne and Canberra and some of the best projects we have completed incorporate a drive to understand design from both an architectural process as well as a building physics process (see more at Building Physics Australia).

Most of our work comes from word-of-mouth recommendations and the more constrains we have to work within, the more fun with have with you in creating a home that suits your needs and provides you with comfort.

Starting as an offshoot from dynamic projects at Geoff Driscoll Architects, Shared Space Architecture was founded in 2018. After a number of iterations and many projects, defining the company as architecture and building physics created a couple of business names in those of Guided Architecture and Building Physics Australia - such a confusing idea when you have a number of inboxes, though it seems to work!

What drives us as a company is the need to fill a gap (no, we're not dentists or health insurance providers) in the industry and to find that space we can share with others. The main part of our architectural process is the notion of guiding people to the right solution over informing people of the right solutions.

Would you like to join us on this journey?

Comfort in a home is the biggest lever you can pull as it means longevity is inherent in the design. Longevity is the second biggest lever you can pull as it means a well-built home with a lower upfront carbon cost.

G'day, I'm Alex

I'm Aussie, An Architect, Building Nerd and love a Great (or not so great) Pun!

I call myself a 'Quirky Architect'. I'm mostly thinking outside the box and this is what helps experience and understand many different concepts and do my best to understand how a house is built. I love the idea that gravity exists and love working with as many constraints as possible. There is a burning desire to get to understand the way people think and the way people feel about space in the way I see design unfolding. This does not happen overnight and the 'guided' process helps us to work together and to encourage us to bring much information to the table.

I am a registered architect in Victoria and run 'Building Physics Australia' alongside Guided Architecture, both business names of Shared Space Architecture Pty Ltd. and my predominant focus is to help projects become easier to build and more comfortable to live in (predominately family homes), leaving a project built with confidence that it will last a lifetime of love, nurturing and respect.

Floorplans and image ideas seem to work really well with me and our process encourages you to be as much or as little a part of the design as you wish. Ultimately, it is a beautiful and comfortable home which you will live in and you know best what is right for you. We're purely here as a medium or guide as you seek a better environment for yourself and your loving family.

Feel free to reach out and say g'day. My approach is relatively relaxed and I'm not really wedded to any particular method to design for you and base a lot of my recommendations on the context and intent of the home you want to create.

Cheers!

G'day, I'm Katie

I'm a Student of Architecture, enthralled by our wonderful planet.

In my work, I’m fascinated about how the decisions we make as architects can shape our health, wellbeing, and communities.

Understanding the ways in which design strategies can enhance energy efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and create healthier indoor environments is critical to making great decisions. Every project comes with a unique set of challenges, and with a broad awareness of building physics, we can work towards a healthy, balanced, easy to build, outcome.

Alongside work I spend lots of time practicing yoga, building on my overflowing pottery collection, and filling my toasties with kimchi. I find joy on warm afternoons, under shady trees, walking by the river, and sharing meals.

As a Master of Architecture student I am inspired by passionate people and intrigued by our wonderful ever-changing planet. I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside clients and Alex, and attempt to leave things slightly better than we found them.

I look forward to meeting and working out the best direction for your project, together.

Cheers.
